What to Expect

Why choose this Santorini wine tour

Many visitors want to experience the island’s wine culture without committing to a half-day excursion. This tour gives you the essentials of wine tasting in Santorini in a shorter format, while keeping the quality high.

You will:

  • Visit 2 unique wineries in Santorini
  • Taste 8 local wines
  • Learn from a certified sommelier
  • Enjoy a private experience at your own pace
  • See more of Santorini’s wine landscape between winery stops
  • Travel with pickup and drop-off included

This makes it a strong fit for travelers looking for one of the more memorable things to do in Santorini without losing half a day.

What to expect

Your experience begins with pickup from your hotel, port, airport, or the nearest accessible meeting point. From there, you will head into Santorini’s wine country with your guide.

At each winery, you will explore the setting, taste a curated selection of wines, and hear the story behind local varieties and production methods. You will also see parts of the winemaking process, including cellar spaces and stages such as bottling and maturation.

Because this is a private Santorini wine tour, the pace feels more relaxed and conversational. You have the space to ask questions, compare styles, and enjoy the views between tastings.

What makes Santorini wine special

Santorini stands apart from other wine regions in Greece. The island’s volcanic soil, dry climate, sea air, and old vine training methods create wines with freshness, minerality, and structure.

During the tour, your sommelier explains:

  • Why Assyrtiko is the island’s signature grape
  • How Santorini’s basket-trained vines protect grapes from wind and heat
  • Why volcanic terroir influences aroma, texture, and acidity
  • How local wineries produce styles such as dry whites and Vinsanto

This educational layer matters because Wineland Tours’ positioning centers on story-driven, expert-led wine experiences rather than generic tastings.

Wines you may taste

Selections may vary by season and winery availability, but guests can expect a guided tasting of 8 exceptional local wines, which may include:

  • Assyrtiko, crisp and mineral-driven
  • Aidani, softer and aromatic
  • Mandilaria, a deeper red variety
  • Mavrotragano, known for structure and character
  • Vinsanto, Santorini’s famous sweet wine

The tasting is designed for both beginners and wine lovers with more experience.

Who this tour is best for

  • Couples who want a private, elegant experience
  • Cruise passengers who need a shorter, well-structured tour
  • First-time visitors looking for a standout Santorini activity
  • Wine lovers interested in Assyrtiko and volcanic wines
  • Travelers who prefer comfort, clarity, and expert guidance

We went on this wine tour and I couldn’t recommend it more—it was one of the highlights of our trip to Santorini! We're not wine experts, but we learned so much about the unique wines of the island. The selection of wineries was fantastic, and the entire experience was handled professionally from the very beginning of our planning to the day of the tour. Our guide was a certified sommelier who picked us up directly from our hotel. He led us on an absolutely perfect private tour—informative, relaxed, and beautifully curated. A must-do experience if you're visiting Santorini!

My wife and I have gone on wine tasting around the world and this is by far the best we've experienced, intimate tastings based on our particular tastes, fun, knowledgeable tour guides and amazing food to accompany rare, unique wines. We are coming back just to taste the wine with our friend groups. Love, love, love this wine tour. Thank you.
